Benjamin Harrison

Benjamin began performing in musical productions at a young age, beginning studies on piano and violin before picking up the saxophone at the age of nine. After having been accepted into a special-interest music school in Australia on a scholarship, Benjamin received the opportunity to perform and tour nationally and internationally with several multi-award-winning classical, jazz and choral ensembles—including a tour of China as an Australian cultural ambassador in 2003. During this period, Benjamin also achieved several other accolades including selection at the national Generations in Jazz competition playing saxophone in 2004, and as a pianist the following year.

In 2007, Benjamin began studies at the Elder Conservatorium of Music and graduated the following year with a Bachelor of Music Performance, specializing in Jazz Saxophone, after being fast-tracked through the course. During his studies, Benjamin held the 1st tenor saxophone chair in the Downbeat magazine award-winning Big Band One, and in 2008, received the Australian dB Magazine award for Top Undergraduate Saxophone.

Throughout 2009, Benjamin worked as a video producer and session musician at an international publishing house playing keyboards and bass guitar, while also playing and recording on the local scene with various ensembles, including leading his own jazz trio and quartet on saxophone. In early 2010, Benjamin was short-listed in the MAX Tropscore competition at the Tropfest International Film Festival and from late 2010 through to mid-2012, toured North America playing saxophone and keyboards, and as acting bandleader with Cirque du Soleil’s arena show ‘Quidam’.

As of 2014, Benjamin has been touring with Cirque du Soleil’s big top show ‘KOOZA’ playing saxophone, keyboard, electric guitar, clarinet, tin whistles and duduk. Benjamin is also currently working on his debut jazz fusion album to be released in 2016.

Benjamin is a P. Mauriat endorsed artist and plays a PMXT-66R unlacquered tenor saxophone.
