Arno Haas

Arno Haas was born and raised in The Black Forest in Germany. He is known for his distinctively smooth style and for being an extremely versatile saxophonist. With equal use of the soprano, alto and tenor sax he has captivated audiences locally and internationally. In the late 80s, he performed with the Karlsruhe Air Force Band for one year. That experience convinced him that he should become a professional musician. From 1984 to 1994 he studied at the Jazz School in Bern, Switzerland with Andy Scherrer. His education provided a great foundation for his future as a professional musician.

In 1992, Arno had his first opportunity to tour when he met a master of Blues, Sidney Guitar Crusher Selby. During that tour, he was accompanied by the Cadillac Blues Band from Freiburg, Black Cat Bone from Tübingen and various bands from Dortmund and Berlin. That project taught him how to play, live and breathe the Blues. Arno recorded and played with the Blues singer for 10 years. During that time, they performed throughout Europe with international stars such as Ricky Lawson, Calvin Owens, and Alvin Lee to name a few.

After graduating from Jazz school in Bern, Arno met Jürgen Waidele. He joined his band, Waidele’s Conversation, a cult band that provides funky songs which are composed by the ingenious band leader. In addition, he was a member of the dance and party band, The Golden Four Quintet. Although Arno never intended to play that style of music, he realized that he could enlarge his muscial horizons, which was just as important as his studies. He was required to play solos in several music genres. This proved his stylistic flexibility; however, he still maintained his individuality. He soon began CD productions with different bands and musicians, for example, Jazz projects with Franco Ambrosetti and Peter Herbolzheimer and Blues projects with the Ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor. In January 1998, Arno met American saxophonist Bob Malach whom he had admired for quite some time.

During many hours together in Zürich and New York, Malach shared his knowledge about working in the music business. Bob Malach motivated Arno to continue to work on music and to never be content with his achievements. They are currently preparing an educational program together. Arno has recorded or played with: Ack Van Rooyen, Peter Herbolzheimer, Joo Kraus, Alvin Lee, Guitar Crusher, Mick Taylor, Bert Joris, Wolfgang Haffner, James Moody, Franko Ambrosetti, Jürgen Waidele, Dizzy Krisch, Ivo Antognini, Chris Farlowe, Steve Baker, Tom Novy, Wencke Myhre, Samstagabendshow-TV-Orchester, Nubya, Göla, Sandra Studer, Maya Brunner, Polo Hofer, Lokua Kanza, So Kalmery, Henri Dikongué, Thomas Stabenow, Jason Wright, Florian Silbereisen, Patrick Lindner, Helene Fischer, Thomas Kiessling, Schwesterherz, DJ-Ötzi, Volker Bengel, Monika Martin, Nino DeAngelo, Wesley G and Mel Gayner.
