Stefan Weilmünster

Stefan Weilmunster is a professional saxophonist in both styles, classical music and Jazz. He has studied music at Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (both in Frankfurt/Main, Germany) as well as saxophon and piano. Beyond he participated in masterclass courses at the Mozarteum in Salzburg(Austria), J. Rossini Conservatorio Fermo(Italy), Konservatorium Amsterdam(The Netherlands), the conservatories of Dortmund and Hannover(both Germany), Berklee College of Music (USA) and received classes from Prof. E. Rousseau (USA), Prof. A. Bornkamp (The Netherlands), Prof. D. Gauthier (KA) Prof. F. Mondelci (Italy), E. Bogard (Belgian), F. Moretti, J. M. Londeix, C. Delangle (France), A. Paulsson (Sweden) in classical style, Bob Mintzer, Joe Lovano and George Garzone (USA) Jazz style.

Presently, Stefan Weilmunster holds a university teaching position for saxophone at the Frankfurt

University of Music and Performing Arts (Germany), is lecturer and course instructor for saxophone at Musica Viva (Germany)with courses all over Germany and in the Tuscon area Italy, and he is vice head teacher of the Music School Seligenstadt-Hainburg-Mainhausen (Germany).

He has been jury member of numerous music competitions (Jugend Musiziert Germany, Kulturstiftung des Deutschen Volkes Germany, saxophone competition Poland). In 2009 he founded the Seligenstadter Saxophone Festival, a 4-day festival with a dozen international saxophoneteachers, workshops and concerts, taking place every two years.

Numerous orchestras have been engaging Stefan Weilmunster, among them the Symphony Orchestra Heidelberg, Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden, State Theatre Darmstadt, State Theatre Mainz, Theatre Orchestra Trier, English Theatre Frankfurt and Symphony Orchestra Saarbrucken (all Germany) as well as the Chamber Orchestra Sofia (Bulgaria). As soloist he performed several times Alexandre Glasounov’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone with the New Chamber Philharmony Cologne. In addition, he has established and contributed to several classic music and Jazz formations, among others Duo Saxoforte, Vier Farben Saxophonquartett (Four Colour Saxophone Quartet), Sumner’s Tales, and Bigband East17.

With the formations Vier Farben Saxophon Quartett (Four Colours Saxophone) and Duo Saxoforte he has published several CDs, with Bigband East17 two DVDs with the Art Rock Legend Michael Sadler, singer of the Canadian Rockband SAGA, from the tour Saga goes swing

Stefan Weilmunster endorses Paul Mauriat saxophones and mouthpieces and reeds by the french company Vandoren Paris.
