I’m Akeem Burke, a 30-year-old Barbadian saxophonist with a passion for jazz, pop & RnB. My musical journey began at age 7 with the piano and was enriched by my experiences at home, Seventh Day Adventist Church, and Coleridge & Parry school, where I explored various instruments. Now, I’m known for electrifying performances in Barbados the UK, bringing my soulful tenor saxophone to life on stages and dance floors. Discovering the tenor saxophone was a turning point for Akeem. Its unique sound and demanding technique resonated deeply with him, leading to years of dedication. With perseverance and after-school lessons, he began gaining recognition, performing at local events and impressing audiences at NIFCA with his school’s Jazz Band. After earning a music associate degree at Barbados Community College, Akeem Burke began to refine his style and make a significant impact in the local music scene. His dedication led to performances at major venues and events across the island. His growing popularity and distinctive sound eventually earned him a residency as the saxophonist at Nikki Beach Barbados from 2018-2020.
“When it comes to music, I just do me! My approach to music on a whole is different because I put my all… emotions, everything without hesitation. My love and appreciation for soul and RnB have influenced my style significantly and that translates into what you hear through my playing”.
