Carlos Ubarte is a professional sax player with 25 years of experience. He holds the degrees of Bachelor in Music as well as in Saxophone. He spent his first four years of university study at the National University of Costa Rica, before he returned to Panama where he completed his thesis: “The Influence of Jazz in Panama.” This earned him the title of Bachelor in Music, before he went on to obtain the same degree specifically in Saxophone and in 2009 get it The Master Music degree.
He knows many of the grand masters of music in Panama, such as pianist DANILO PÉREZ, sax- and flute player MAURICIO SMITH, trumpet player VITÍN PAZ and sax player CARLOS GARNETT; he has participated in clinics and seminars with sax player PAQUITO D’ RIVERA, pianist CHUCHO VALDÉS, trumpet player ARTURO SANDOVAL, flutist EMBER MORA, Professor of the Paris Conservatory, ANDRE JAUME, among others.
His musical trajectory has allowed him to share the stage with artists like Basilio, Danny Rivera, Ismael Rivera hijo, Luigi Texidor, Viti Ruíz, Charlie Zaa, Raúl Marrero, Tito Allen, Sara Knapp, Cyntia Brown Franklin, Víctor “Vitín” Paz, Pedro Suarez Vértiz, El Rooky, Rubén Blades, Salsa Kids, Carlos Garnett, Danilo Pérez, Carlos El Grande, Charlie Cardona, Pedro Arroyo, Wichie Camacho, Pedro Brull, Cheo Feliciano, Omar Alfano, Bobby Valentín, Charlie Sepúlveda, Mauricio Silva, Lalo Rodríguez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Originals Apollo Sound Soneros, among others.
He worked with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Panama, as well as the Municipal Symphonic Orchestra and the Big Band of Panama, which was founded by Danilo Pérez and guest artist with the National Symphonic. He has been the lead saxophonist and flutist in many different genres, like Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Original Reggae, Chamber Music, Rock, Classical Music, Jazz, and Fusion.
However, jazz is his passion. Like music educator worked in the National College of Arts and the Panama Music Academy like Academic Director. Today Carlos Ubarte is the most demand sax player in Panamá, playing with the salsa group called “La Kshamba” as well in the all musical theatres and studios records. Carlos Ubarte has participated in numerous important recordings with domestic as well as international artists, Raices del Fuego is the first step in his career as a soloist musician and a composer in 2002. Carlos Ubarte creates new concepts within jazz fusion, and he is inspired by the rhythm and the soul of the panamenian peasants, telling his stories through the musical genre that holds the greats transcendence in the world: jazz. Note: This CD represented to Panama in the Central America Convention for Dancers in the 2004 celebrated in Costa Rica.
