張永鋒 Yong-Feng Zhang

Young saxophonist Zhang Yongfeng is one of the few saxophone players coming from Shandong Province in China.


Zhang Yongfeng started learning music since young age. He was later influenced by contemporary music and took up saxophone, learning under China’s first generation jazz musician and educator, Lu Tingquan. Representing the new generation of saxophonists, Zhang Yongfeng combines modern music theory with superb performing skills, always leaving a great impression with his audience. He has performed for many years now and has a long-term cooperation with outstanding musicians at home and abroad. Zhang loves to incorporate progressive musical ideas and is committed to developing modern music education in Qingdao, especially to the popularization and advancement of jazz music.

Work record over the years:

In 2000 Zhang joined International Big Band LEON, playing jazz and rock with talented musicians from around the world.

In April 2006 he was invited by Shanghai JZ Jazz Club to play at their celebration event.

In March 2007 Zhang participated on a program of the Guangdong Television with a theme song. In May of the same year, he was invited by The Verse, Beijing-based band, as woodwind conductor and arranger, and he also performed at the center stage of the Beijing Midi Music Festival.

In 2008 Zhang was invited to perform together with the French modern jazz group FRAGNSTEIN.

In 2009 he performed together with American jazz singer Ptah Brown and jazz pianist John W. Cole at the Beach House jazz club.

In 2011 he went to New York to study jazz with Tim Price for one year.

In 2012 he returned to China and focused on performing as well as on modern music education.

In 2015 Zhang performed on the same stage with Dave Koz at Zhaoyuan, Shandong province, China.
