Steeped in the tradition of John Coltrane, Deniss Pashkevich is a Latvian flautist & saxophonist, producer, ad-libber, and educator with a profound calling. Deniss’ own country has highly evaluated his investment in music in general, not only in Jazz, choosing him and his band Riga Groove Electro to represent Latvia in 11 Baltic Sea countries in the frame of the project Balticness (2007-2008), during which he performed in the best concert halls of those countries. The culmination of this project was its Gala Concert, where Deniss and participants from other countries performed in front of 11 prime ministers and President of Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers. The State has expressed its gratitude to Deniss, by issuing him a certificate of honor for “Strengthening the Republic of Latvia”.
Deniss was educated and graduated with scholarship at Jazepa Medina muzic college, took flute lessons with Georg Gots at the music college in Estonia (Tallin). He studied jazz saxophone at Jazepa Vitola, flute at the Music Academy of Latvia (prof. Strautins), and jazz at Enschede Music Academy. Deniss studied in many workshops with Hall of Fame artists like Joe Lovano and Jerry Bergonzi. He has had private training with Boris Gammer ( jerusalem music academy ) and has attended Umbria jazz festival (Italy).
Deniss Pashkevich is leading workshops for young musicians in jazz. Also leading his family business, private music school, Performing Art School, he is teaches improvisation, saxophone, flute, practical jazz harmony and ensemble lessons. Deniss is an IES London certified teacher in jazz music.
His sound has penetrated all the major festivals in the Baltics and Scandanavia such as Pori Jazz, Klaipeda Jazz, Rigas Ritmi, Birstonas Jazz, Jazz Kaar, Jazz Globus in Israel, Quasimodo Jazz Club in Berlin, Fasching Jazz club in Stockholm and Akwarium Jazzarium in Warsaw, Jazz House in Copenhagen and Music Village in Brussels. In 2008 he performed as a soloist with the Latvian National Chamber Orchestra. Aside from concerts, he and his wife Jolanta Gulbe-Pashkevich are owners and educators of private jazz school and Performing art school in Latvia. He performs in and is a music producer of TV shows. For ten years Deniss has been conducting different jazz workshops in Latvia, the former Soviet Union, and Europe . He is the founder of a concert agency, the jazz music records company ZePirats, and Pashkevich management group in Latvia.
