P.Mauriat Saxophones

Every so often you'll hear a buzz in the industry about a new product that's got everyone excited. In the saxophone world things have been pretty quiet for some time, until now. A saxophone company named P.Mauriat is turning heads with its new line of professional class saxophones. It seems like saxophone manufacturers are a dime a dozen these days, but this is definitely not your run of the mill saxophone. During the past 8 months I have had the opportunity of play-testing the new line of P.Mauriat saxophones including the new rolled tone hole alto and tenor, the new curved and straight sopranos, the burnished brass series, the nickel -silver line, and the new vintage series baritone sax. They even have an arced soprano model with a bell that curves forward like the old saxello, I have toured with three different models and have used them extensively on the stage as well as in the studio.

The first thing I noticed about these horns was the quality of their components and workmanships. They are made with a high quality French brass, sturdy blue-steel springs and nice leather pads, Today, many manufacturers are cutting costs and using less expensive brass and other materials in their saxophones. This is certainly not the case with P.Mauriat. As I began to play these horns it became very clear that this was not just another average saxophone. The sound is amongst the best I've ever heard and the even response across the full range of the horn is outstanding. The lows are very open and free and the altissimo range is exceptional. I can honestly say that all the P.Mauriat horns I've played are excellent. The nickel-silver model has a very bright and modern sound, the burnished brass model isn't quite as bright but still has plenty of edge with it's aggressive and full tone, and the dark lacquered vintage series sounds very fat, warm and well...vintage.

Of all the different models, the vintage series is probably the stand out because of its amazing fullness and warmth. This series comes in a rolled tone hole model. The rolled tone hole offers a little bit bigger and more organic sound reminiscent of that fat" Texas Tenor" sound. It is more likely to appeal to the professional jazz saxophonist due to its big sound, free response, and excellent altissimo range. The regular tone hole model also provides excellent response and has a very nice clarity of tone over the full range of the saxophone. It would be an excellent saxophone for both classical and jazz players alike.

I have toured with the dark lacquered vintage series as well as the burnished brass tenor sax and have been very pleased with their performance and durability. On the road, they have all kept their adjustment very well. In fact, they have held up better that my previous" top notch" name-brand saxophones, which I have now sold and replaced with P.Mauriat saxophones. In the studio, these instrument have provided equally impressive results which have satisfied many a client. With a full line of professional saxophones that look, fell, and sound great, P.Mauriat is setting a new outstanding. I think the bottom line is the beautiful sound that these saxophones produce and their ease of response. The future looks bright for P.Mauriat saxophones. These instruments are a must-try for any serious saxophonist looking at buying a new horn today.
